Prescribing Protocols

A prescribing protocol is a set of one or more medications with dose and frequency details. You can prescribe a protocol to save time prescribing medications that are commonly prescribed together.

Creating a Prescribing Protocol

  1. Click Setup > Medical > Medications Protocol.
  2. Click the New button to create the new protocol.
  3. The Choose Medications screen is displayed.

  4. Select the first required medication (From Mims, Custom List or NZULM).
  5. Click the OK button. The Prescription Item Details screen is displayed.
  6. Write a name for the protocol into the protocol field.
  7. Complete the Prescription details for dose and frequency and click the OK button.
  8. Click the New button to add a second item to the protocol.
  9. Select the required medication and click the OK button.
  10. The Prescription Item Details screen is displayed.

  11. Select the newly created Protocol from step 5 in the Protocol drop down menu.
  12. Complete the Prescription details for dose and frequency and click the OK button.
  13. Repeat the process to add more medications to the protocol.
  14. Click the Close button of the Maintain Medication Protocols screen when no more medication items are to be added to the protocol. More items can be added to this protocol in the future through the Maintain Medication Protocols screen.

NOTE  The Add to Regulars checkbox must be selected each time the medication protocol is prescribed. Selecting the checkbox when creating or editing a protocol will not save the setting.

To Prescribe the Protocol of medications

  1. Click the Prescribing button (F9).
  2. The Medications screen is displayed.

  3. Click the Protocols button.
  4. The Maintain Medication Protocols window is displayed.

  5. Highlight the Protocol from the list.
  6. Click the Select button.
  7. Enter the Provider and the Prescriber of the Protocol.
  8. Enter the provider and the prescriber

  9. Select OK.
  10. The medications in the protocol will display in the Medications History section

    NOTE  Prescribing a protocol will still look for interactions and allergies.

  11. Click the Print button to prescribe the protocol
  12. When prescribing clicking on the Protocol button to the right of the prescribing screen will list all protocols saved.
