This article includes the questions asked by Bp Premier users during the BeInTheKnow: Practice Incentives Program Quality Improvement (PIP QI) session delivered by Best Practice Software on the 01 February 2023.
All PIP QI report generation tools will be similar: select a date range or reporting period and generate the standardised PIP QI data set. One advantage of the Bp Premier reporting tool is that it is a free standalone utility for Bp Premier users. You do not need to create new third-party user accounts or install additional software.
Maintaining a practice Data Quality Policy and an active patient list will benefit your installation of Bp Premier and your practice overall:
- Duplicate and unmarked active patients increase the chance of user error and will populate lists in the software with patients that should not appear.
- Other business and clinical analytics software will scan and extract de-identified data from the Bp Premier database, not just the PIP QI program. If an application is looking for diagnoses or conditions, for example, it will look for standardised codes (SNOMED or PYEFINCH in Bp Premier) to recognise and extract data. Such applications will not inspect free text entries because of the enormous number of variations that could exist.
- Recording the patient's diagnosis and past history using clinically coded items is also very important for accreditation purposes.
Cervical screening results must be manually added to the Cervical screening section of the patient record.
Alcohol:
The fields used for alcohol are obtained from the ‘days per week’ or ‘standard drinks per day’ if populated.
Smoking:
There are two criteria used for smoking:
- If the patient is older than 15 and under 30 years old, they are only included if their smoking status was recorded in the past 12 months.
- If the patient is 30 years old (or older), they are included if their smoking status was recorded since they turned 30.
The queries search for all patients that have had a visit in the last two years, under the visit type of:
- Surgery
- Home
- RACF
- Locum Service.
Deceased patients are excluded.
