FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) is a standards framework created by HL7, designed to enable the exchange of healthcare-related information.
FHIR is intended to be usable world-wide in a wide variety of contexts. Bp Premier Saffron edition is introducing FHIR as a method of integrating with third party apps such as the NCSR Hub, connecting with provider directories, and for secure messaging.
Outside of downloading the FHIR API and configuring permissions for third party software integrated with Bp Premier through the FHIR configuration screen, it is not likely that you will be required to have any extensive knowledge of FHIR, as it is a feature which generally works behind the scenes, and won't often surface in day-to-day tasks using Bp Premier
