Several functions of Bp Premier allow you to run a mail merge for a set of patients:
- Utilities > Database Search
- Clinical > Reminders
- Clinical > Diabetes Register
- Clinical > Follow up Inbox .
If a mail merge is possible from a Bp Premier screen, the option File > Mail Merge will be available from the menu. Bp Premier will prompt you to select a template to merge to.
Save a mail merge document to patient record
If the merge template relates to a patient record, like a reminder letter, you may have the option to Save a copy in each patient's record. Tick the checkbox to add a copy of the mailed letter to the Correspondence Out section of the patient record. The name of the merged letter is set to the template name. Reminder mailouts that are saved to a patient record have a file name of ‘Reminder letter’.
General mail merge advice
If this is the first time you have used mail merge or you are using a new template, Best Practice Software recommend that you perform a test print for only 2 or 3 patients to ensure that the letter prints as expected. If you are mail merging reminders, the diabetes register, or inbox followups, do not tick the option Save a copy in each patient's record for the test print.

Printing envelopes to a laser printer
Envelopes can cause problems for laser printers. Make sure that the adhesive on the envelope is capable of withstanding the heat that the fuser puts out to keep the printing on the page. If you don't, the envelopes will come out of the printer already sealed. If envelopes are coming out of the printer wrinkled, they may be too stiff for the paper path. Open the rear of the printer and let envelopes exit at that location instead.
Always disconnect the power cable before opening a printer.
